ABOUT THE PROJECT

Sustaining Futures, Raising Communities

Saint-Gobain North America creates innovative solutions to make the world a better home for all of our colleagues, customers and communities. Our residential solutions, through all of our brands but in particular CertainTeed, help developers meet the challenges of growth, energy efficiency and environmental protection. Individuals and families will benefit by living in an eco-responsible home that promotes wellbeing.

In Canton, Ohio, Saint-Gobain North America is partnering with Charis Homes to build a zero energy ready home for a family that can benefit from both sustainable and universal design features. Saint-Gobain North America will donate the Sustaining Futures, Raising Communities home to Habitat for Humanity East Central Ohio, which will then sell the home with an affordable mortgage to a family who will benefit most from this sustainable home concept. The family will move into the home in Canton, Ohio, by early 2022. This is the first project for our new Sustaining Futures, Raising Communities program. As the program further develops, we will share updates here to tell the story.

Our shared ambition is the wellbeing of our community, neighbors and colleagues. Through our commitment to sustainability, we’re making the world a better home. SGNA is creating innovative solutions for the future—today.

WHAT IS A ZERO ENERGY READY HOME?

Simply put, zero energy ready means a home is ultra-efficient, with a simple path to becoming a net zero home. Let’s break down what that looks like.

Zero energy ready homes are planned and built to the same high energy efficiency standards as zero energy homes. The only difference is that zero energy ready homes are designed and wired so that solar panels can be easily installed in the future, making them even more affordable today, and allowing them to become zero energy homes when the owners are ready for that transition.

THE BENEFITS OF A ZERO ENERGY READY HOME

The Zero Energy Project highlights these features of a zero energy ready home:

features of a zero energy ready home
  •  Optimized Thermal Envelope meets and exceeds the next generation code making each home Future Ready
  •  Whole-House Water Protection effectively manages potential leak and mold problems making each home Moisture Ready
  •  High-Performance Heating and Cooling system, professionally designed and installed making each home Comfort Ready
  •  High-Efficiency Components with improved connectivity, quality, and durability making each home Tech Ready
  •  Comprehensive Indoor Air Quality exceeds all the requirements of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Indoor airPLUS program making each home Health Ready
  •  Solar Ready Construction minimizes the cost and disruption to the home when adding solar in the future making each home Zero Ready
